SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The Springfield Free Public Library will host an artist reception for photographer Jacki Dickert of Linden Saturday September 23 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Her exhibit "World of Wonders" was put on display at the library on September 5 and will remain on display until October 6 in the library's Donald B. Palmer Museum.

From the library's website:  More than 30 pieces in color and in black and white from a wide range of locations around the world will be on display, showcasing the exquisite light, flowing forms and magical moments of the natural world. A unique feature of the exhibit is that all photographs on display have been printed on aluminum through a dye sublimation technique that results in high definition vibrancy. These prints are presented on floating frames without mats or glass, making them immediately accessible to the viewer.

Jacki Dickert is a resident of Linden, NJ.  On her Facebook page, she says she "...grew up playing in the woods, climbing trees, and believing in the magic of the world. A child of a nature photographer, she informally studied the art her whole life."  Her real start in photography and developing images began in 2006, after a trip to Iceland.  There she felt she wanted "...to present the wondrous beauty of the world for others to experience."  Her images have been showcased at galleries and nature centers in New Jersey. An elementary school teacher by day, Ms. Dickert also teaches extracurricular photography classes to children and adults.  She also serves as president of Camera Naturalists, a nature photography club that meets in Backing Ridge.  Her photos were taken in many locations of the world including New Jersey.

The following is her "Artist Statement" from her Facebook page:

I feel great wonder and joy in the world around me. In awe of what I find in nature, I love the land, plants, patterns, and little corners of the world that I discover in my frequent wanderings there. Thus, my work ranges from sweeping landscapes to images of the often overlooked, but exquisitely beautiful, details of nature. Throughout, I attempt to incorporate a sense of design that is either inherent in the subject matter or effected by composition choice.

While my imagination is captivated by “found” artistry, I also believe a photographer may use the tools and techniques available to create expressive images. I am open to using the camera in non-traditional ways as well as to fully using the tools of the digital darkroom to develop my images to match my vision, both inner and outer.

I would like the viewing of my photographs to be a rich experience, evoking emotion and stimulating the imagination. Ultimately, I hope that my work allows viewers to be touched by the magic and beauty that is always around us.

Thank you for visiting.

Jacki Dickert

Politics IS Government in Union County

April 23, 2018

After Bruce Patrson of Garwood was stopped from speaking at the Union County freeholder meeting of March 22 regarding the politics behind refusing to give the party line to a sitting freeholder I thought this brazen suppression of free speech could not go unanswered. A the the April 19 meeting I answered with these comments.

After ten years of following government in Union County I conclude ...
