Bear Seen in Westfield Sunday has Moved on, Police Chief Says; Bear Seen Near Cranford School

WESTFIELD, NJ — The bear seen in the area of Lawrence Avenue and Sinclair Place in Westfield Sunday night has moved on and it is once again safe for people in that area to go outside, Westfield Police Chief David Wayman said Monday.

The bear may be in Cranford, he said, where a bear sighting was reported Monday morning.

Cranford police released an advisory at 8:11 a.m. Monday that said the bear was seen in the area of Beech Street, near Brookside Place School. The school was pushed to a delayed opening at 9:45 p.m. Cranford police were on the scene.

As of 9:08 a.m., Cranford police were continuing to follow the bear in the same area. They ask residents to avoid the bear.
