NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - There were caps and sashes for 53 special “graduates” who were honored at the PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital infant and toddler rehabilitation celebration April 17. These special children, aged birth through two years, have complex medical needs and received comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services in 2014 and 2015. More than 300 friends, family members, and hospital caregivers filled the Arlene and Henry Schwartzman Courtyard at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for the ceremony.

“We are honored our patient families entrusted us to care for their babies,” said Sharon Burke, MD, director of the infant toddler program, PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital. “Many of these children were born too early with life-changing complications or born with rare or life-threatening conditions. Our dedicated team personalized their care using innovative therapies and medical treatments.  Most importantly, we embraced these families, living our value of compassion to ensure they felt supported during their entire journey.”

While most families celebrate their baby’s first smile, first tooth or first steps at home, Children’s Specialized Hospital staff is fortunate enough to share these milestones with our patients’ families during their time with us. This special event allows the families and staff to reunite and celebrate the tremendous progress they’ve made and new milestones they’ve accomplished since they’ve been home!

Fundraising events throughout the year help support the annual event and provide each child with laptop computers, gift cards and personal family portraits. Special thanks are owed to the many volunteers and staff members who attended and planned the event.

The April 17th graduation was dedicated to Amy B. Mansue, president of the southern region for RWJ Barnabas Health and immediate past president and CEO of Children’s Specialized Hospital for her commitment and advocacy to children with complex medical needs and their families.

February 20, 2018

Dear Editor:

As a 26-year-old Scotch Plains resident who cares more about the well-being of our town than about local politics, I am extremely disappointed that the Scotch Plains Democratic Committee leadership has decided to abandon Colleen Mahr in her run for Chair of the Union County Democratic Committee.

Mahr, who as Mayor of Fanwood for 15 years has worked closely with Scotch Plains ...
