BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - A little pride was created in Berkeley Heights when Chris Tribuna, of Balloon Design Studio, took over the basement of Sadal Wine Cellar on Springfield Avenue to stage the creation of a sea of rainbow colored balloons for the NYC Pride March on Sunday.
Tribuna, literally, created an "under the sea" themed scene from over 10,000 balloons that are hand tied together to create the array of human size rainbow colored fish along with a pod of urchin-like tentacles and other sea creatures that will be worn by volunteers. In addition, he designed letters that spell out "NYC PRIDE" and designs that will be carried on poles.
Tribuna, a Gov. Livingston graduate, got his start in the balloon design business in 2009, when he was 12 years old. His beginnings stemmed from making deliveries of balloon bouquets and making balloon arches and designs for community events and parties. His business has grown and has been recognized by world-renowned balloon artists and he has worked with and been mentored by the best designers in the nation. He recently helped an artist friend with his Pride themed design at the Chicago Pride March. Tribuna travels across the nation to design both corporate and large individual events.
"He is young and talented," said Eddy, who teaches balloon design internationally and came to help Tribuna with this project. "He has great skills, so he will do very well. He loves what he does and he is very creative," he said of Tribuna.
Tribuna will certainly make a splash at the NYC Pride March and will be seen by millions that attend. While his work for the NYC Pride March is voluntary, Tribuna's talent will most definitely make a lasting impression to the spectators along the route.
