SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Fourth grader Yael Klieger was the youngest congregant to blow the shofar during Rosh Hashanah services at Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains.

Prior to the Jewish High Holidays, Yael also had visited all the classes in the synagogue’s religious school to demonstrate how this ancient instrument is sounded.

Yael is shown here with her own shofar, practicing in the office of Cantor Matt Axelrod, who had taught her the traditional shofar notes.
