SPRINGFIELD, NJ - One of Springfield’s own took his shot at making his golf dream come true.

Amateo Bido, a 2008 Dayton High School graduate, shot a 7-over par 78 Wednesday in a U.S. Open Men’s Golf Local Qualifying Tournament at Green Brook Country Club in North Caldwell.

The 28-year-old Bido shot a 3-over 38 on the front nine with bogeys on holes 2, 8, and 9 and then struggled on the back with a 4-over 40, despite back-to-back birdies on holes 14 (par 3, 165 yards) and 15 (par 5, 517 yards).

131 players entered to try and grab eight qualifying spots with two alternates at Green Brook, a 6,490-yard par 71 layout, which was one of six sites across the nation Wednesday to hold local qualifying tournaments.

Qualifiers from those tournaments will advance to U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Tournaments from May 22-June 5, including Canoe Brook Country Club in nearby Summit on Monday, June 5.

This year, the 117th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wisconsin, June 12-18.
