Education Leaders from China Visit Union County College

Members of the Chinese delegation and Union County College administration and staff.

CRANFORD – On Thurs., Nov. 9, 2017, Union County College hosted a delegation of 18 leaders from vocational educational institutions in the Hebei Province of China. The group of leaders are visiting the United States for a two week tour through an international partnership with New Jersey City University. Vocational colleges are comparable to American community colleges, so in addition to their stop at Union, the delegation is slated to visit a few additional community colleges in New Jersey.

The visit to Union began with a welcome to the Cranford campus from President Margaret M. McMenamin. Included in her remarks was an emphasis on the function of a comprehensive community college as well as Union’s mission of transforming our community, one student at a time. Staff members, administrators, and students gave presentations on the College’s mission, demographics, academic programs, and college life in addition to sharing statistical information on graduation and enrollment. The visiting leaders then took a tour of the Helen E. Chaney Student Services Center to experience the One-Stop concept of student services. Throughout the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to ask questions about the operations of departments within the College and how they work together to provide an excellent student experience.

“Union County College was pleased to host the Chinese education leaders and to share with them our strategies for maintaining a comprehensive community college. It was a valuable experience to be able to connect with educational leaders from the other side of the world,” stated President McMenamin.
