BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Two former Gov. Livingston baseball stars Dan Serretti and Tyler McCulloch are both putting up impressive rookie numbers at their respective universities this spring. Serretti, who plays for the nationally ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels (13-4), has claimed the starting second baseman's position and is hitting at a .333 clip, good for third best on the team. Fellow freshman McCulloch is also enjoying a successful first month of next level baseball ,having started 7 of  8  games for local D III FDU-Florham  (4-4). McCulloch is leading the Devils with a  gaudy .458 average and has driven in 17 runs. Both players were 2018 graduates of Gov. Livingston High School and key performers for veteran Highlander baseball Coach Chris Roof during their scholastic career.  

Serretti has forged his way into the North Carolina lineup starting at second base in 12 of the last 13 Tar Heel games. On Tuesday he recorded the first 5 hit game of his college career  as he went a perfect 5-5 , against Gardner-Webb in the Tar heels 18-8 victory. Serretti is the first freshman Tar Heel to have a 5-hit game since 2014 and his monster day included three doubles and 2 RBI . On the season, he is hitting .333 (13-39) with seven doubles and 9 RBI. North Carolina will be hosting a red hot 13-3 Miami Hurricane team in a crucial three game ACC series this weekend in Chapel Hill.

This past Monday as FDU was in the middle of an 8 game Florida road trip, McCulloch had a career day when the Devils split a pair of games with Plymouth State University (MA). The rookie drove in 8 runs over two games going 5-6 with four doubles and two walks. Since Monday’s explosion, McCulloch has kept up his torrid pace at the plate, pushing his season's numbers higher with a .458 (11-24) batting average, six extra base hits, and a whopping 17 RBI. FDU-Florham will wrap up their Florida swing with one more game this week before returning home take on Delaware Valley University on Sunday  in an afternoon twin-bill .

Tyler McCulloch a varsity baseball and basketball athlete while at Gov. Livingston is the son of Scott and Liz McCulloch. Dan Serretti  a four year varsity starter at shortstop while at Gov. Livingston is the son of Dan and Jenn Serretti. Both families reside in Berkeley Heights.
