Dr. Stefan Young of Westfield will accompany his art songs for Rebecca Dias, soprano, of Clark and Jonathon Dawson, baritone, of Scotch Plains, along with Musical Club of Westfield instrumentalists.

The public is invited on May 10 to the next in a series of free concerts given by members of the Musical Club of Westfield. The performance will be held at the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 170 Elm St. and will begin at 7:30 p.m. It will feature, among other performances, art songs written by Stefan Young of Westfield.

Stefan Young received his Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School of Music and doctorate from Rutgers University. A winner of over 20 prizes and scholarships, Dr. Young is now professor of theory and composition at Westminster Choir College of Rider University. Both his duo and solo performances have garnished critical acclaim.

Baritone Jonathon Dawson, a current Musical Club of Westfield Scholarship winner, will begin the concert with a set of two art songs composed by Stefan entitled TWO BY THREE: At Midnight’s Hour and The Rolling English Road. Mr. Dawson will be accompanied by the composer on the piano and by guest artist Robert Romano on the clarinet.

Along with the compositions by Stefan Young, the concert offers two other master works. Pianist Sophia Agranovich will play the Sonata No.2 in B-flat minor, Op.35, by Frederic Chopin. Robert Romano, clarinet, and Carol-Ann Mochernuk, piano, will conclude the concert with Leonard Bernstein’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano (1941-1942).

The performance is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served after the program to give those in attendance the opportunity to meet the performers. Membership in the club is open to anyone with an interest in music. As onlookers gathered around the demolition site on March 15 and March 16, an excavator clawed its ...

You Want a Check for How Much!

My first admissions gig was working for a small liberal arts college with a pretty hefty price tag.  Picture me at a college fair: name tag in place, pile of brochures ready to go.  An eager family would walk up and we’d start a conversation.  One of the first questions I’d get from parents was about cost and the moment that $50,000-plus figure left my mouth I ...

Proud to support Tom Malinowski for Congress

March 8, 2018

Every single day, whether I want to be or not, I am reminded how important it is that Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives in November and check Donald Trump. Fortunately, there is a terrific candidate in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District who can beat incumbent Leonard Lance. That candidate is Tom Malinowski.

I'm a lifelong New Jersey resident -- including ...
