MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ - Gabriela Arias of Mountainside, New Jersey was recently honored for completing a summer internship with Assemblywoman Nancy Muñoz.
Gabriela is a rising junior at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where she is a double major in Romance Studies and College of Letters, a small, integrative major that studies Western philosophy, literature and history. Gabriela is also involved in a variety of clubs at Wesleyan, including the Wesleyan Diversity Education Facilitators, which hosts campus discussions and panel events that address both global and campus-wide issues of social justice and equity. She is also a graduate of Kent Place School in Summit.
Gabriela is very happy to have been given the opportunity to work in the Assemblywoman’s office and says, “It was a huge learning experience for me. Though I like to consider myself as someone who is very politically engaged, I knew very little about how the New Jersey Legislature worked, both on a larger and smaller scale, prior to my internship. I am so grateful that I was given an opportunity to learn about it first-hand.”
Gabriela worked on a variety of projects during her time in the Assemblywoman’s office. She organized bills and articles, as well as transcribed notes from hearings in order to aid the Assemblywoman in future speaking engagements and hearings. Additionally, she edited and updated newsletter content.
“Gabriela was an asset to the district office, it was a pleasure to work with her and help her to better understand the function of state government and providing constituent services.” said Muñoz
