SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Willow Grove Presbyterian Church of Scotch Plains invites the community to worship services that help  deepen one’s spiritual life and focus on the meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection. The services reflect the last week of Jesus’ life.  Children and youth are encouraged to participate in the services.

A Good Friday Tenebrae Service of Shadows  will be held on Friday, April 14 at 7:30 pm.  This is a combined service with the congregation of First United Methodist Church and will be held at their location - 1171 Terrill Road, Scotch Plains.  This will be a dramatic and quiet worship service that will include scripture readings, hymns, and short sung responses focusing on the last hours of Jesus' life. The combined choir will sing the piece, "Purchased by Love."  As the solemn service progresses, lighted candles will gradually be extinguished, and finally the congregation will exit in silence and in darkness. The Rev. Cynthia Cochran-Carney and The Rev. Dr. Vijaya Kumar will lead the service.

An Easter Sunday worship service will be held at 10:00 am on April 16.  An exciting celebration of Christ’s resurrection, this service will include jubilant music and joyful worship. Guest trumpet player Florian Schantz from Westfield and guest organist Richard Corritori from Springfield will be featured. Eight guest singers from Arthur Johnson High School in Clark will join singers from Willow Grove Church to sing special pieces, including Beethoven's "Alleluia" and  "A Gaelic Easter Anthem.”

Colleen Mahr Has Paid Her Dues, Earned Peoples’ Trust, and Left a Track Record of Success

February 20, 2018

Dear Editor:

As a 26-year-old Scotch Plains resident who cares more about the well-being of our town than about local politics, I am extremely disappointed that the Scotch Plains Democratic Committee leadership has decided to abandon Colleen Mahr in her run for Chair of the Union County Democratic Committee.

Mahr, who as Mayor of Fanwood for 15 years has worked closely with Scotch Plains ...
