SPRINGFIELD, NJ – On Friday and Saturday, November 17 & 18, Jonathan Dayton High School presents its fall drama “Superior Donuts” in the just renovated auditorium.  The play starts at 7 p.m. each night and tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens and $10 for adults.

The Jonathan Dayton High School Halsey Hall Auditorium renovation will be done.  The balcony was reinforced and over 100 new seats were put in place.  The main floor was redone and all of the seating will be back in place.  Fixtures were refurbished and renovated, and a new sound system and lighting system are in place.

The cast is “…very excited about opening the show in the renovated auditorium. “

The actors said Superior Donuts is “…it is the most topical play we have ever done.”  One of the things they like about the play it is part drama and part comedy.  The funny parts are really genuinely funny and the sad parts are really sad.”

What is the cast doing this week?  They are involved in “Tech Week”.  It involves full rehearsals and means the cast will “…spend more time at Dayton than they do at home.”  Monday was an optional costume day and rehearsals the rest of the week are done in costume.  Last weekend included painting the set.  After Saturday the cast will help convert the set to the one used for the Gaudineer Middle School winter musical Aladdin, Jr. in December.

Cast and Stage Manager Part I

Alicea Charlton has the role of Franco Wicks.  She is a senior and excited to make her “…grand debut on the Halsey Hall Stage.”  Alicia is a member of DCA, the track team, choir, and band.  Outside of school she works at The Institute of Music for Children.   Jermaine Fowler has the role in the CBS series and when it was on Broadway, Jon Michael Hill had the original role.

Vincent Eynon is a junior and plays Kiril Ivakin, a role played by Michael Garvey on Broadway.  This is his first drama.  Vincent did perform in Legally Blonde and American Idiot.  He is a “self taught musician” and proud member of the Jonathan Dayton choir.

Lillian Friedman is a sophomore and is a member of Luther’s Crew.  At Dayton Lillian was in The Nerd and Legally Blonde.  She also was in Gaudineer Middle productions The Music Man, Jr. and Hairspray, Jr.

Senior Adam Kaunfer plays Kevin Magee, a role played by Cliff Chamberlain on Broadway.  An active participant in theater, Adam was in Dayton’s productions of The Nerd, Antigone, Legally Blonde, American Idiot and In the Heights.  He has also participated in Cranford’s Theater Project Jr.

Lindsey Mauriello is a senior and plays Kevin’s Girlfriend.  A veteran of the Dayton stage, Lindsey has been in The Nerd, In the Heights, American Idiot and Legally Blonde.  She really likes Superior Donuts because she gets to carry around a bat and help coordinate a fight scene.

Brendan O’Brien is a junior and the Stage Manager.  Mr. DeNicolo said he also feels Brendan is the Assistant Director.  This is Brendan’s second year as Stage Manager.  Last year he was Stage Manager for The Nerd and before that he was Assistant Manager for Legally Blonde and Antigone.

Jessica Pica is a senior and she plays Maxine, which was the role Tarasov on Broadway originally played by Yasen Peyankov.  In her four years at Dayton, Jessica has been in all of Dayton’s fall dramas and spring musicals.  Jessica has studied Meisner technique under both Sarah Sirota and Kevin Kittle at Rutgers Mason Gross, and “…is forever indebted to them.”

Senior Samantha Rachel plays Officer Randy Osteen a role played on Broadway by Kate Buddeke.  An active participant in theater at Dayton, she was also in the productions of The Nerd, Lost in Yonkers, Legally Blonde, and In the Heights.

And Over Here is the Dining Hall 2

My very first job in admissions was while I was still an undergraduate myself as a tour guide.  Very early on they indoctrinated us with some tricks of the trade.  It’s a dining hall, not a cafeteria.  A residence hall, not a dorm.  If you have to divulge some negative bit of information, sandwich it between two positives.  There were instructions for glossing over ...
