SUMMIT, NJ - Power restoration and clean-up efforts continue after a sudden 'microburst' storm during the late afternoon / early evening hours of September 17 struck Summit, downing trees and power lines. According to Jersey Central Power & Light (JCPL), 356 customers remain without power in an area bordered by Division Avenue, Meadowbrook Court and Valley View Avenue.
The storm, which uprooted massive trees and scattered limbs across neighborhoods, resulted in the cancellation of the school day at Summit's Franklin Elementary School, which remains without power.
On its website, JCPL estimates power restoration at 12 p.m. Crews, as they have been, are on scene, with the epicenter of their efforts located at the intersection of Division and Valley View. Roads throughout the vicinity remain fully- or partially-closed to all but local traffic.
A 'microburst' is an intense small-scale downdraft produced by a thunderstorm or rain shower.
