ELIZABETH, NJ – “Maybe we should do this on a weekly basis,” joked Westfield Mayor Andy Skibitsky, joined by Councilman David Oliveira, as he accepted an Infrastructure and Municipal Aid grant of $100,000 from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders Thursday. “Westfield will certainly put this to good use.”

This week’s Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders meeting was dedicated exclusively to the presentation of checks.  “Senior Focus” and “Infrastructure and Municipal Aid” grants were presented to mayors, council members and representatives from towns across the county.

“Thank you for giving us this money because it helps keep our streets safe,” said Roselle Mayor, Christine Dansereau, who accepted a check that will go towards roadway improvements in her municipality. “What we sometimes forget is that dangerous roads cause accidents.”

Infrastructure and Municipal Aid Grants ranged from $15,000 to $100,000 for a total of $1.5m across the county. “That’s $1.5 million which will be backed up by the municipality. That’s $3 million in roads and infrastructure improvements this year – $9 million over the last three years,” Freeholder Christopher Hudak said.
