MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – Only one person has filed to run for two open seats on the Mountainside Board of Education -- Candice Schiano, who lives on Summit Road.
Board members Kate Motz and Jeane Parker, whose terms expire in 2018, did not file. Parker represents Mountainside on the Berkeley Heights Board of Educaton.
The two were appointed to the board in October 2011, to fill two vacancies on the board when Carolyn Williams and Marybeth Schaumberg resigned. Later, Motz and Parker won three-year terms in the 2012 and 2015 elections.
The last day to file as a candidate was Thursday, July 30. Board of Education elections are held on the same day as the General Election. This year the date is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
According to the “2018 Important Dates” section on the Union County election website, Sept. 4, is the “petition filing deadline for a new Nomination Petition to fill a vacancy for an Independent candidate and School Board candidate for the General Election.”
Neither Motz nor Parker were available for comment. More information will be published when it is available.
