Private Bus Service from Westfield to NYC Launches May 29

WESTFIELD, NJ — Boxcar, a private bus company, will launch service from Westfield and Cranford train stations direct to Midtown and the Upper East Side of Manhattan on May 29. Their luxury buses offer amenities including reserved seating, restrooms, power outlets and free Wi-Fi. 

Though it's more expensive than New Jersey Transit, “We think this is a better way to commute,” CEO Joe Colangelo said.

Boxcar partners with local businesses and houses of worship to offer alternative parking solutions for commuters, as well.

“We’re like Airbnb for parking,” Colangelo described it.

Boxcar's buses from our area will make stops at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue, 42nd Street and 6th Avenue, 43rd Street and Madison Avenue, 47th Street and Madison Avenue, 52nd Street and Madison Avenue and 57th Street and Madison Avenue. (Stops in Downtown Manhattan are a possibility for the future, Colangelo said.)

AM Schedule:

  • Westfield: 6:40, 7:10
  • Cranford: 6:50, 7:20

PM Schedule:

  • 41st St (Between 7th & 8th Ave): Departs 5:30 p.m.

  • Single Ride —   $13.99

*(All multi-packs are valid for one year after date of purchase)

  • Select the days/times you'd like to reserve a seat and purchase with credit card (cancel with a refund up until the moment )
  • All tickets are displayed in the mobile app the day of the ride
