SPRINGFIELD, NJ – On Friday June 8, the 10th Annual JDHS Alumni Hockey Game will be played.  This year the game will be played at Codey Arena in West Orange from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

For the second consecutive year, the event will honor the memory of Daniel Triano.  And for the second consecutive year, the event will be run by Jonathan Dayton senior Zoe Frei.

About the event Zoe said, “I am running the game again this year to honor an amazing friend, teammate, and person. This event was so successful last year.  There was an amazing turnout and a lot of support from people all over the area. I hope this year will be just as successful. Please come out and support.”

Dan was a student, friend and teammate of many at Jonathan Dayton High School and Springfield Township.  He was killed in a car accident in 2016.

Funds raised from the event will go toward a scholarship in Dan’s memory, as well as a donation to the New Jersey Dare Devils, a hockey organization for children with special needs that Dan was passionate about.

Dan was a student at Union County Vo-Tech’s Academy of Information Technology, a member of the Jonathan Dayton hockey team, and a long time New Jersey Youth Devils Player.

The Annual Alumni Hockey Game has become a tradition in Springfield and has enjoyed consistent support from the local business community and families.  This year event organizers hope for a strong showing from the community.

An alumni hockey game involving past hockey team members of Jonathan Dayton & David Brearley High Schools will be the main event.  Many of the players were teammates of Dan.  Tickets are $3 in advance and $5 at the door.

Please contact Zoe Frei at 973-666-1627 or zoefrei7@gmail.com to purchase tickets, make a donation, or get more information about the event.

Moms Helping Moms Foundation Receives Overwhelming Support from Community to Help Mothers this Mother’s Day

June 20, 2018

Mother’s Day is often celebrated by showering the women in our lives with beautiful flowers, heartfelt cards, and taking them on special outings to show them how much they mean to us. Yet, for many low-income mothers living in our community, they struggle each day to provide the basics for their babies.

Diapers are a necessity yet one in three families in the United States lack an ...

Sleep out at Covenant House

June 18, 2018

I can enjoy the same movies over and over like it were the first time to see them.  My kids roll their eyes at this.  Well, many unimaginable things happen as you become a certain age, and you tend to learn to accept those things graciously as gift.   But I remember the movie “The Blind Side.”  Until I saw that movie, I didn’t know homeless children ...

What's Hot and What's Not

Summer is a great time to take a step back, sip a cool beverage, and take a look at what’s going on in the world of college admissions.  Departments use the summer to evaluate how their year went and plan on any changes they want to make for the fall.  Did they over-enroll? Under-enroll?  What application materials were useful to them?  Which were redundant or time ...

Get Empowered to Help Prevent Suicide

June 10, 2018

Dear Editor:

Over the past week social media and the news have been filled with stories and articles encouraging people to seek help if they’re in emotional distress. There have been countless articles about the need to break the silence around the topic of mental health and suicide, and I am encouraged by the support people are extending to others.

Often, the death by suicide by ...
