"A PLACE OF PEACE, REST, ILLUMINATION, AND CLOSENESS TO GOD" - Loyola Jesuit Center Home Page

MORRISTOWN, NJ - A group of Eva’s Village men attended the 2018 Winter Men's Ignatian Spirituality Project (ISP) Retreat at the Loyola Jesuit Retreat Center  in Morristown February 15th and 16th. Ten men from Eva's village shelter in Paterson attended a two-day retreat Thursday and Friday at the Loyola Jesuit Center, a 30-acre site in a quiet part of Morristown.

Time spent at the retreat has had a profound impact on the men of Eva's Village and ISP volunteers from central and south towns in New Jersey; Westfield, Colts Neck, Basking Ridge, Mountainside, Paterson and Berkeley Heights. Retreatants said it strengthened their faith and gave them hope while providing spiritual empowerment, according to the center. "The ISP retreats give people a lot of hope and introduces the concept of 'Higher Power', which becomes an important part of their everyday life," shared Ed Stankiewicz, a resident of Mountainside and a retreat facilitator. Ed is an original member of the ISP ministry in Morristown-Loyola (started about 11 years ago.)

This winter's men’s retreat was made possible through the coordination and dedication of Loyola Jesuit Retreat Center, Ignatian Spirituality Project and Eva's Village.  "The volunteer facilitators and I have been involved with this ministry for over a two-dozen retreats combined and we are always amazed at the friendship that grows at each retreat. It keeps us coming back everytime. Your really can't schedule the Grace of God!" shared Wally Pardo, a Loyola Board of Director and the ISP Men's retreat coordinator from Basking Ridge.  The partnership of Eva's Village, Ignatian Spirituality Project and  Loyola Jesuit Retreat Center provide spirituality retreats a year to indigent  men and women.  ISP models a retreat program that effectively acknowledges the interior and spiritual lives of those living with homelessness. Through a seamless blend of Ignatian spirituality and traditional recovery program, ISP retreats are an effective and important resource in laying a fundamental foundation of hope.

Based in Paterson, Eva’s Village has established a unique record in facing community challenges and helping the hungry, homeless and addicted. Loyola Jesuit Retreat Center in Morristown has been providing a peaceful atmosphere for retreatants since 1927 giving many in the hectic modern life a have a pause to search, ask, and wonder.

Moms Helping Moms Foundation Receives Overwhelming Support from Community to Help Mothers this Mother’s Day

June 20, 2018

Mother’s Day is often celebrated by showering the women in our lives with beautiful flowers, heartfelt cards, and taking them on special outings to show them how much they mean to us. Yet, for many low-income mothers living in our community, they struggle each day to provide the basics for their babies.

Diapers are a necessity yet one in three families in the United States lack an ...

Sleep out at Covenant House

June 18, 2018

I can enjoy the same movies over and over like it were the first time to see them.  My kids roll their eyes at this.  Well, many unimaginable things happen as you become a certain age, and you tend to learn to accept those things graciously as gift.   But I remember the movie “The Blind Side.”  Until I saw that movie, I didn’t know homeless children ...

What's Hot and What's Not

Summer is a great time to take a step back, sip a cool beverage, and take a look at what’s going on in the world of college admissions.  Departments use the summer to evaluate how their year went and plan on any changes they want to make for the fall.  Did they over-enroll? Under-enroll?  What application materials were useful to them?  Which were redundant or time ...

Get Empowered to Help Prevent Suicide

June 10, 2018

Dear Editor:

Over the past week social media and the news have been filled with stories and articles encouraging people to seek help if they’re in emotional distress. There have been countless articles about the need to break the silence around the topic of mental health and suicide, and I am encouraged by the support people are extending to others.

Often, the death by suicide by ...
