Two very American programs will be presented at the Westfield Memorial Library in mid-June. On Tuesday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m., crafters will learn how to make a “shabby chic” American flag, and on Wednesday, June 13 at 7:00 p.m., “Female Spies of World War II” will be presented. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street.
The Shabby Chic American Flag workshop is perfect for all the upcoming patriotic holidays and for anyone who enjoys crafts, even if they cannot sew.
“You will be amazed at how fun and easy it can be to create your own door or wall decoration in time for June 14, which is Flag Day,” said Librarian Marge Barkan, a life-long crafter who will teach the class. She has been sharing her love of crafting with friends, as well as developing and teaching classes for students and adults for many years.
Due to the hands on nature of craft class, registration is limited. Registration is available for Westfield Resident Cardholders only, until June 5 when MURAL patrons may register, space permitting.
Female Spies of World War II will be presented by The Ladies of History. In this dramatic program, Alisa Dupuy will play female spy mistress Vera Atkins, and present the lives of other female spies who risked it all in World War II. The women, who came from all walks of life, stepped into these roles to aid their country.
The Ladies of History is a labor of love that grew out of Dupuy’s desire to study history, wear the fashions of different eras and bring history to life in a lively and fun way. She has presented her programs to tea rooms, historical societies, libraries, bed and breakfasts, book clubs, social clubs, church fundraisers and schools.
The programs are open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders. (MURAL cardholders belong to the 43 libraries that are part of the Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries.
