WESTFIELD, NJ — A chef, a personal trainer and the owner of a music school walk into a bar. And start jamming.

Chef by day, guitarist by night, C.J. Reycraft, Jr., owner of Butcher Burgers in Downtown Westfield is known in town for his killer burgers and crazy milkshakes. But when he steps out of the kitchen, he’s likely playing with his band, Audible Soul, which just dropped a new single on iTunes and Spotify called “Blind.”

The band, which has been together a year, plays what Reycraft calls “Silky-smooth serenades — acoustic music that creates good vibes in your soul.” To visit their Facebook page and hear them play, click here.

Albulena Berisha, on lead vocals and lyrics, is a personal trainer at Crunch in Garwood

“Soulful, sultry, seductive voice, incredible dance moves — she is definitely the face of our group,” Reycraft said. “Amazing person, trainer and performer.”

On base is Jose Valencia, who co-owns Valencia Music School in Westfield with his wife.

“He's talented on multiple instruments and keeps the low end of the song strong in all of our music,” Reycraft said. “He's got ‘chops’ for days and is an extremely gifted composer. It's always an honor to create music with someone so knowledgeable.”

Reycraft plays guitar, both rhythm and lead, writes songs with the help of his Audible Soulmates, and sometimes backs up Berisha on vocals.

“I'm thrilled to be able to create original music with Jose and Albulena on a regular basis and performing live with them is what I enjoy most,” Reycraft said.

The band is playing at Molly Maguires on Central Avenue in Clark this Friday starting at 10 p.m. (No cover charge.) On Saturday, March 4, catch them at Crossroads in Garwood. ($10 cover. Mention Audible Soul at the door when you arrive.)

Sleep out at Covenant House

June 18, 2018

I can enjoy the same movies over and over like it were the first time to see them.  My kids roll their eyes at this.  Well, many unimaginable things happen as you become a certain age, and you tend to learn to accept those things graciously as gift.   But I remember the movie “The Blind Side.”  Until I saw that movie, I didn’t know homeless children ...

What's Hot and What's Not

Summer is a great time to take a step back, sip a cool beverage, and take a look at what’s going on in the world of college admissions.  Departments use the summer to evaluate how their year went and plan on any changes they want to make for the fall.  Did they over-enroll? Under-enroll?  What application materials were useful to them?  Which were redundant or time ...
