WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Area Y's Men's Club’s annual Christmas tree sale is taking place now through Dec. 23 at the Elm Street Athletic Field, across from Stop & Shop. Lot hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

All proceeds from the sale will go to local charities and non-profit organizations. The club hopes to sell more than 1,000 trees this season.

“They range from Douglas Firs from Pennsylvania to Fraser Fir's from North Carolina to Balsam's from Nova Scotia, Canada. We have small ‘table-top’ trees that are $15 each up to over 10-foot top-quality Fraser Fir for $120,” Y’s Men’s Club board member Bill West said. “We also have very nice wreaths for $12 to $50 and grave covers for $35.”

The event is run by club members from Westfield, Scotch Plains, Mountainside and Cranford, along with volunteers from area organizations and local youth.

“This year we had help from Westfield High School crew, Master Gardeners Club and Resolve Community Counseling,” West said. “These groups help unload the tractor trailers that each contain over 400 trees. During the sale, local youth from Westfield and Scotch Plains-Fanwood middle schools and high schools help. Part of the mission of the Y's Men is youth development and, although it's volunteer work, for the kids it's essentially their first job, helping customers get the right Christmas tree, re-stocking trees and helping members with lot setup.”

The Y’s Men’s Club is a non-profit and 501(c) charitable organization.

“The club has been in existence since 1953 and has donated well over $2 million,” West said. “We donate to the Westfield Area Y programs, including the Annual Support Campaign for Strong Kids, Minority Achievers and the Leaders Club. Local organizations include Resolve Community Counseling Center, Westfield & Scotch Plains Rescue Squads, Westfield Day Care, Children's Dyslexia Center, SPF Lacrosse, Westfield United Fund and Imagine Grief Counseling.”
