On Saturday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m., the Westfield Memorial Library opens the three-part Weiss Family Jazz Series with the popular David Leonhardt Trio. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street.
An internationally acclaimed jazz pianist and composer, Leonhardt and The David Leonhardt Jazz Trio will play music from American Song Book standards by composers like Gershwin and Cole Porter, and pianist David Leonhardt’s original compositions.
The group has appeared at the Arts Festival of Shenzen in China, Winnipeg Jazz Festival, French Maison de Dance in Lyon France, as well as festivals and concerts throughout the United States, including the Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival in Westfield.
The ensemble, which consists of piano, bass, and drums, will also perform creative improvisations. Always lyrical and creative, this veteran performer and his musicians will embark on a musical journey that enraptures and excites.
Established with a bequest to the Westfield Memorial Library Foundation, the Weiss Family Jazz Series commemorates longtime library patrons Joseph and Dorothy Weiss.
Attendees should sign up for the program as jazz programs at the library are always filled to capacity. The snow date for the program is Saturday, March 24.
The program is free and open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders. (MURAL cardholders belong to the 43 libraries that are part of the Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries.
