SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Willow Grove Presbyterian Church is launching a new group for anyone who knits or crochets with an eye toward mission and service.  The program, called KniTTogether, is a weekly gathering to talk and socialize and create for a common cause.  Knitters will be making crib-sized baby blankets to be donated to Raphael’s Life House in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Raphael’s Life House is a 12-bed temporary shelter for homeless young women age 18-21 who are either pregnant or who have a baby age 18 months or younger.  Young women who are in the program at Raphael’s Life House are required to participate in parenting skills classes, play groups with other client families, job training, social services support meetings, and other classes.  Participants can earn additional new baby and personal supplies, blankets, and clothing through their active participation in the program.

This new KniTTogether group will provide 12 blankets to start and then additional blankets of various sizes to meet the ongoing need at the shelter.  This group is free and open to the public.  There is no need to RSVP, although knitters are encouraged to email the church office at office@willowgrovechurch.org to find out which type of yarn is required for the blankets.

KniTTogether begins on Wednesday March 8, 2017, at 3:00 p.m.  The group will then meet every Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Kiep Lounge at Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, 1961 Raritan Rd. in Scotch Plains.  There is ample on-site parking and the church is fully handicapped accessible.  Please email the church office or call 908-232-5678 or visit the church website at www.willowgrovechurch.org for more details.

We Need More Women Like Colleen Mahr in Municipal, County and State Government

February 19, 2018

Dear Editor:

I’m proud to support Colleen Mahr for Chair of the Union County Democratic Committee  (UCDC) and am encouraging my Scotch Plains peers to join me.

I was a first time candidate wanting to make a difference in my hometown of Scotch Plains, when Mayor Mahr of neighboring Fanwood stepped in to help me campaign and win my election to be Councilwoman three years ago.
