Kids' Critter Camp

Critter Camp 2018

St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center’s popular Kids’ Critter Camp is accepting registrations for this summer’s week-long sessions—two options for children entering grades 2-4 and three for those entering grades 4-6 in September.  Children who love animals will enjoy learning about a number of animal species, as well as the role of the animal shelter. Camp is designed to educate and inspire our youth to practice a lifestyle of compassion, respect and responsibility through the humane treatment of animals.

Each fun-filled day is packed with a wide variety of activities to engage all animal loving campers! Each day will consist of interactive lessons on a wide variety of animal welfare topics, including companion animal care & safety, adoption & rehoming, the importance of population control, and farm animal advocacy, all to build positive and enriching behaviors with other beings. Many of St. Hubert’s professional staff including behavior specialists, vet techs, dog trainers, pet therapy teams, and ACOs (animal control officers), visit campers to share their vast array of knowledge on the specifics of animal sheltering. In addition, animal experts from outside of St. Hubert’s will also make special guest appearances. Campers will also have the opportunity to observe our adoptable animals on an educational tour of our shelter. Finally, each day will also include opportunities for group and individual games and crafts.

Please join us for an experience you are sure to never forget! Each session runs Monday-Friday from 9am-2pm at St. Hubert’s Madison campus located at 575 Woodland Avenue.

Too Soon

I got a call today from the anxious parent of a sixth grader who wanted some guidance on how to best help his student position herself for success in college.  What classes should she take now? Would it be worth it to investigate private school? When is it too early to start looking at college campuses?

While thinking college with a 12-year-old may seem crazy to some, any parent reading ...

New Jersey the Land of So Many Towns- and Taxes

September 14, 2018

One state, twenty one counties, five hundred and sixty-six municipalities and six hundred and twenty one school districts. Government and bureaucracy at every level.

Maybe, in a Jersey kind of way it all makes sense.

The reasons for this abundance of towns and school districts- and the relentless property tax problem that comes with them-are as varied as the landscape. Some communities grew ...
