Open House for Prospective Members at Congregation Beth Israel

Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains will hold an open house for prospective members on Sunday, June 13, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Prospective congregants will have the opportunity to tour the synagogue and its Religious School and to meet Congregation Beth Israel’s clergy, professional staff, lay leaders, and teachers.

The open house will take place during the Religious School’s end-of-year celebration, which will feature inflatable games and a video game truck for children of all ages. The event, which will be held outdoors, is free and open to the community.

“After an amazing school year, we are excited to gather together to celebrate everything that we as a Religious School and greater community accomplished,” said Aviva Tilles, Congregation Beth Israel’s Director of Congregational Learning.  “It’s an opportunity for us to take a deep collective breath and just enjoy spending some time with each other. We’re also excited to welcome potential new members and to introduce them to the students, families, teachers, and volunteers that make up our close-knit synagogue community.”

Congregation Beth Israel has been recognized as an ABLE Awarded Congregation by the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest for its commitment to inclusion and accommodation for all its members and guests.

“We are committed to inclusion at CBI. If you or your child have a challenge that makes Religious School and/or synagogue participation difficult, please contact us so that we can work with you to make the necessary accommodations," said Aviva.

Registration for the 2021-2022 Religious School year is now open. Congregation Beth Israel educates students from pre-K through twelfth grade through experiential grade-specific programs that encompass the family in its curriculum.  Classes for children from pre-K through second grade meet on Sundays. Religious School for grades 3-7 meets two days per week, on Sundays and a weekday. The post-Religious School program, Darcone, for grades 8 – 12, meets one weeknight per month.

Congregation Beth Israel does not require synagogue membership for children to attend its Religious School for programs through second grade.  However, families with children below third grade have the option of joining the synagogue at a reduced rate and enjoying full benefits of synagogue membership, including High Holiday tickets.

Congregation Beth Israel is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue, serving the religious, cultural, educational and social needs of congregants from Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Westfield and surrounding towns. It has an active Sisterhood, Men’s Club and youth group, plus a wide array of programs, ranging from adult education courses to social action opportunities.

Registration is required to attend the Open House. Please RSVP on the synagogue’s website at https://www.cbinj.org/event/endcelebration. Face masks are required.
