The Musical Club Of Westfield Presents a Free Concert - Open to the Public

Free Concert Opens the 105th Season of the Musical Club of Westfield.

The public is invited to attend a free concert given by The Musical Club of Westfield on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 7:45 p.m. This is the first in a year-long series of events sponsored by the Musical Club and will be held at the First Baptist Church of Westfield located at 170 Elm Street in Westfield, NJ.

The Musical Club of Westfield is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster and encourage good music, provide performance opportunities for local musicians and support young musicians from Union county with college scholarships. The club also sponsors the Junior Musical Club for students in grades 8 to 12 from the surrounding communities.

The October 9th concert will begin with Dr. David Bower, organ, performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Fugue in b minor, followed by Percy Whitlock’s Plymouth Suite.

The concert will continue with Bass-Baritone Glen Crane, accompanied by Mary Beth McFall, pianist. They will perform a song cycle by Gerald Finzi, Let Us Garlands Bring. The texts of all the songs are taken from the plays of Shakespeare.

Closing the evenings program will be Jenny Cline, flute, with Carlos Cuestas, guitar. Mr. Cuestas is a guest artist. The duo will perform City Vignettes, Op. 29B, by composer George N. Gianopoulos. It’s three movements are based on the poetry of Sara Teasdale. This will be followed by Malvaloca by Luis A. Calvo, arranged by Gary Schocker, and finally Dos Postales Porteñas Máximo by composer Diego Pujol.

There will be a reception with light refreshments immediately after the concert where audience members will have the opportunity to meet the performers. Additional information about the club can be found by visiting musicalclubofwestfield.org.
