315 First Street Westfield, NJ 07090Longtime Westfield resident, Mr. Kenneth Brown (PaPaDo), passed away on Tuesday, July 20th, 2021 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit. He was 82 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, NY to Charles and Edna (Coady) Brown, Ken moved to Westfield when he was 12 years old. Ken attended Holy Trinity grammar & high schools. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1958, was honorably discharged in 1961, and went on to earn his Baccalaureate from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.
Ken had a long career with the U.S. Postal Service serving as Post Master first in Garwood, then South Orange finally retiring from Westfield/Mountainside in 2008 after serving the community he loved for many years. In retirement, Ken got great pleasure serving as a crossing guard at Holy Trinity in Westfield where "Mr. Ken" was beloved by the children, their families and their teachers who surprised Ken with a farewell parade and songs prepared just for him.
Mr. Brown was a founder of the Westfield Mens Senior Softball League, and a member of the Westfield Booster Association, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He coached many of his daughters' softball teams and was a past president of the Westfield Girls Softball League.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ann Brown, and their daughters, Christine Brown-Charlton and her children Matthew, Bridget and Michael and by Robyn Brown-Percival, her husband, Horst, and their children Alexandra, Jack and Brendan. Ken is predeceased by his mother Edna Coady and by his brother, Charles Brown.
Ken was pragmatic and carried a sense of love, humility and humor wherever he went. His "Dad jokes" and truisms were legendary! He felt God's love and the family is grateful to have been deeply loved by him.
A visitation will be held 4-8 pm on Friday, July 23rd at Dooley Colonial Home located at 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ. A funeral mass will begin at 10 am Saturday, July 24th at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield followed by burial in Fairview Cemetary in Westfield. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ken's name to Michaeljfox.org for Parkinson's Disease research or to Semperfifund.org.
