MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ - Mayor Paul Mirabelli issued the following statement to residents regarding the recent report of four Mountainside young adults testing positive for COVID-19.
To all Residents:
I have been advised by Megan Avallone, Director of the Westfield Regional Board of Health, that in the first week of October, 4 Mountainside residents tested positive for COVID-19, All were young adults. Based upon these results, the Corona virus is still in Mountainside. It is not a hoax.
Mountainside residents of all ages need to be more vigilant. Large scale parties that are attended by students who are not wearing a mask and not social distancing is unacceptable. Parents should not condone these types of parties. Spectators who are attending sports events on our fields must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
The science tells us that masks save lives.
Now more than ever, we need to continue our efforts to stop the spread of this deadly virus. I urge all Mountainside residents to cooperate in order to protect themselves, our families, and our community. Please use common sense. It is extremely important that we continue to practice social distancing and wear a mask or other face coverings when you are in public even when you are having fun. This is not a suggestion. It is each resident’s civic duty to promote social distancing and wear a mask. This crisis is not over and we must continue to battle this terrible virus. Please try to remain calm. I am confident that we will get through this, but only if we work together and each do our part, especially if we wear masks and maintain proper social distancing. We must continue to be strong, safe, and not let our guard down. Again wear a mask when you go our even if you feel healthy. This will help stop the spread to others who are most vulnerable. It is everyone’s community duty to maintain social distancing to stop the spread. Mountainside will win this battle. These practices will save lives but only if everyone young and old adhere to them.
God bless all of you and God bless Mountainside.
Mayor Paul Mirabelli
