A dollar won’t buy you a cup of coffee at most places in New Jersey, but this week it will buy nine meals for neighbors in need.
That’s because every dollar donated to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s triple match campaign will be tripled until midnight on May 31, 2019, up to $15,000 thanks to a donor. As of Friday, CFBNJ was just under halfway to that goal, according to Nicole Williams, a spokesperson for the food bank.

According to the CFBNJ, one in seven kids in the Garden State will go hungry every day. Donations are critical at this time of year because they help the food bank provide nutritious meals to kids in need through their Summer Nutrition Program, Williams explained.
“The most vulnerable time for children facing hunger is during the summer months when schools are closed and they lose access to school meals,” said Williams. “This can impact their development, impeding their performance in school and affecting their learning, social interaction and productivity. They could also suffer long-term health implications and/or chronic illness.”
CFBNJ helps by providing nutritious summer meals to children at sites around the state including libraries, recreation centers and Boys & Girls Clubs.
