SUMMIT, NJ - A tanker truck with more than 8,000 gallons of fuel on board overturned at the Broad Street / Route 24 overpass near Middle Avenue in the early morning hours of November 4.

According to the City of Summit, the Summit Fire Department is on scene, the leaking has been contained and the Union County Bureau of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) team is on also on scene handling the cleanup, which will continue through 12 p.m. today.

Broad Street, between the Route 24 overpass and Middle Avenue, is closed as is the Broad Street entrance into Summit. Morris Turnpike (Route 124) in Springfield is closed in both directions from Millburn Avenue to Mt. Ararat Road in Short Hills.

No injuries have been reported. 

Mutual aid was provided by Millburn Fire Department, Scotch Plains Fire Department, Springfield Fire Department, Union County Fire Department and at the scene.

Authorities are asking people to lease avoid the area.
