LOWER DAUPHIN, PA - The Mountainside 9U Green Machine played a hard fought game but came up short in an extra inning battle, losing 3-2 to Lower Dauphin, PA in the Cal Ripken Mid Atlantic Regional Championship finals.
The Green Machine team was coming off a 2018 championship season where the 8Us went 17-0, won the districts, states and regionals.
It's quite a journey to reach this level, and Coach Steven Filiaci knows how tough it is to repeat. "In many ways, this season was more gratifying than last season," said Coach Filiaci. "Frankly, everyone now knows who Mountainside is and how talented they are as a baseball team. That being said, every team that plays us will pitch their best and the target is on our back."
After beating Cranford in the district finals and Manalapan in the Northern NJ state finals, Mountainside went on to the regionals to compete against the winners of NJ, NY, PA, DE, and MD. After advancing thru pool play, Mountainside beat Prince Charles, MD in the quarter finals to take on Moorestown, NJ in the region semifinals. Mountainside won 7 to 4 to advance to the finals.
"As the head coach, I would like to thank all of the parents, friends and fans that came out to support our 9U squad whether it was in person or by social media. We are very blessed to be part of this community. I would also like to personally thank the coaching staff that includes: Andrew Adornato, Eric Cantagallo, Vinnie Donahue, Michael Liloia, and Terry Hanratty," said Coach Filiaci.
The Green Machine players are: Addison Adornato, Jacob Minnefor, Matthew Filiaci, Mateo Liloia, Tyce Hannratty, Michael Donahue, CJ Cantagallo, Noah Hunter, Drew Peris, Bobby Poth, Greg Dardanello, Alex Pater, McGuire Filler, Luke Lombardi and Elijah Garcia.
It was another special season where these boys continued to defy the odds and make Mountainside proud!
