NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Excel Basketball Camp recently completed its 38th year in New Providence offering a series of "instructional camps geared to provide instruction in basketball fundamentals to boys and girls in grades one through 12."

Since 1981, Excel has been a summer basketball tradition as thousands of boys and girls have learned the game and essential lifeskill through their participation in Excel.

"Congratulations to Excel Basketball on the completion of their 38th year of outstanding basketball programing in New Providence," said Mayor Al Morgan. "Please join me in thanking them for taking care of our kids throughout the years, and for not only instructing basketball skills, but instilling good sportsmanship, teamwork, and life lessons. They make New Providence proud.”

Camp Director Frank Allocco, Sr. was raised in New Providence and credits his success to his "solid" upbringing by his mother and father and the coaching he received in his youth, high school through college at Notre Dame University [where he was starting quarterback].

He has fond memories of his early years as a youth basketball coach in New Providence and the CYO youth basketball programs before moving to California.

Alloco has won every major award presented to high school coaches and has built an impressive resume at Northgate High School and De La Salle High School in California. He is just the 27th coach in California state history to win over 600 games and achieved that milestone faster than any coach in state history. He became second All-Time in winning percentage in California interscholastic history, was honored nationally as Coach of the Year, and coached the McDonalds All American Game in 2014.

Currently, he is the Senior Associate Athletic Director at University of San Francisco. In a recent interview with San Francisco Chronicle, Coach Allocco said, “There is a simple formula that works -- the cornerstone of all great organizations is love." Adding, "The spirit of what we have is more than basketball. When you walk into that gym and you see that sign, 'Honor over glory,' that really speaks to me.-- We can change the world one person at a time, one player at a time."

Despite the numerous opportunities that the game of basketball has presented to Coach Allocco, he would be the first to tell you that coaching at Excel is truly his ministry and his passion. The commitment he gives to the young athletes who attend his camp is "second to none.”

"Serving children and trying to provide them with great tools to become better players and better people is my life’s commitment," said Coach Allocco.
