SOMERVILLE, NJ - Two Perth Amboy men were arrested in Manville and charged with possession of three ounces of cocaine, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.
The cocaine was allegedly found in the cup holder of a child's car seat inside the truck occupied by both suspects, according to Robertson.
Rodolfo Romero-Rosa, 34, of Cornell Street, Perth Amboy, and Luis Torres, 24, of Catherine Street Perth Amboy, are charged with second-degree possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Robertson provided the following account:
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force was tipped that two men in a white pickup truck would arrive at the Manville Walmart parking lot with cocaine March 17.
Task Force members and Manville police officers set up surveillance. At 7:30 p.m., they saw a white pickup truck occupied by the two suspects drive in to the Walmart parking lot.
Detectives approached the men and advised them of the ongoing narcotics investigation. Torres was identified as the driver of the vehicle; Romero-Rosa was the front seat passenger.
Torres gave permission to detectives to search his pickup truck. The search resulted in the seizure of approximately 3 ounces of cocaine located in the cup holder of a child’s booster seat.
Both suspects are lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
