NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – A grocery wholesaler which operates a warehouse in the city is planning a move to Pennsylvania that could cost Middlesex County 1,300 jobs, according to mycentraljersey.com.

C&S Wholesale Grocers, which also has warehouses in Carteret, North Brunswick, South Brunswick and Woodbridge, may lay off local workers Feb. 4 if a decision is made to move operations, the published report said.

Local officials are urging the company, which stocks the retail shelves of area Pathmark and A&P supermarkets, to reconsider the move.

At stake is $48.9 million in profits to local companies and $11.7 in state tax revenue.
