NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ- The Planning Board last night hired the attorney who also serves as the city’s zoning board attorney.
The Planning Board nominated and unanimously appointed Aravind Aithal, an attorney in the Piscataway law firm of Bob Smith & Associates. Smith is the state senator representing New Brunswick.
Aithal believes serving as the attorney for both the planning and zoning boards gives him a “different perspective,” stating that it is “good to be part of progress.”
Aithal is a land use lawyer who appears before many planning and zoning board statewide. Aithal also serves as Middlesex Borough attorney and is part-time municipal prosecutor in Somerville, Spotswood and South Brunswick.
In other planning board news:
- Chi Psi fraternity submitted a site plan and variance application for the addition and modifications to its white stately house at 114 College Ave., just a couple of doors down from the Rutgers Student Center. The board received this resolution late; it will be discussed at the November meeting. TapInto New Brunswick stopped by the fraternity house prior to the meeting; its members said they were unaware of the application or the construction plans.
- The planning board approved an application for Procedyne Corp. to install a larger liquid nitrogen storage tank. Procedyne Corp has a 6,000-gallon-tank at 11 Industrial Drive and will be installing a 11,000-gallon tank. The expanded tank is needed to accommodate future growth.
