NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Police arrested yesterday the man who allegedly broke into the bedroom of a woman near Rutgers University’s College Avenue Campus.
City cops found Curtis Smith, a 25-year-old homeless man, around 2 p.m. May 4 in Walgreens, at the corner of Jersey Avenue and Handy Street, according to a press release from the New Brunswick Police Department.
Smith was taken into custody “without incident,” cops said. He’s facing charges of burglary and harassment.
New Brunswick police detectives identified Smith as the alleged perpetrator of a May 3 break-in.
A woman affiliated with Rutgers woke up around 4:45 a.m. and saw a man in the bedroom of her off-campus home on Stone Street. The man, who police allege is Smith, fled through a back door upon being confronted.
The intrusion occurred between Sicard Street and College Avenue, one of the busiest hubs for college students in the area and the state.
