NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The city council passed a resolution increasing fees for exclusive use of city playing fields and park pavilions.
The plan calls for fees of $30 for two hours reservation of a field and $50 if lighting is needed, up from $25 for two hours and no fee for lighting.
For pavilions at Buccleuch and Boyd parks, which are popular for family functions, the charge will be $30 an hour for up to four hours for residents and $50 for non-residents and corporations.
“It’s a fee for the exclusive use of city playing fields and for tennis camp instruction and their exclusive use,” city Business Administrator Thomas Loughlin said.
He noted the fees for sports clinics are $500 for instructors to rent for the week, but could climb to $750, while private clubs will be charged to reserve soccer fields.
Other fields not reserved for private use will be open to the public at no cost, Loughlin said.
A final vote is set for the council’s April 6 meeting.
