NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A primary power line collapsed today and set fire to the porch of an Easton Avenue home, according to the city.
New Brunswick firefighters received a call for a “small fire” at 199 Easton Ave. at 9:51 a.m. July 24 and arrived on scene four minutes later, city spokesperson Jennifer Bradshaw told TAPinto New Brunswick. The fire department cleared the scene just after noon.
No one suffered any injuries from the fire, she said.
A city construction code official told the property owner to hire an electrician to “check the power in the house as a safety precaution,” Bradshaw said. But the fire didn’t displace any tenants, she noted.
City officials don’t know what caused the power line to arc and fall.
