NEW BRUNSWICK — A passenger was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at New Brunswick station on Wednesday April 4.
The victim was identified this morning as 54-year-old East Brunswick resident Venugopal Menon.
Menon was struck at 10:15 a.m. and he died on the scene. None of the 74 passengers and crew on the train were injured, according to an Amtrak spokesman.
A police monitor service said that Menon jumped in front of a train and was fatally struck in the area between French and Albany streets
The train involved was Amtrak 643 offering Keystone service from Newark, NJ to Harrisburg, PA.
Following the accident, Northeast Corridor service was suspended for 30 minutes between Metro Park and Trenton while police investigated the incident. Service resumed by 11:00 a.m. but was subject to 45 minute delays.
