NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ –The New Brunswick Free Public Library celebrated the Year of the Rat on Sunday, February 9th, with an afternoon of arts and crafts, performances, and delicious food. The library’s community room was decorated with a variety of lanterns, couplets, and Chinese paintings from the students of Murray Hill Chinese school. 

The celebration started with a brief introduction of how Chinese New Year is celebrated. Dr. Bai from the Confucius Institute of Rutgers University and Ms. Tracey O'Reggio Clark, the Interim Executive Director of New Brunswick Culture Center, were present as honored guests.

During the program, audience enjoyed several beautiful musical performances by Dr. Yingchao Zhang, Jennifer Chen, Simon Chen, and the ANJCS Chamber Orchestra; astonishing demonstrations of Chinese Yo-Yo, WuShu, and Tai Chi by Alexander Hsieh, Dean Hsieh, Robert Hsieh, Steven Chan, and Orania McKay; and songs and dances by the graceful Joe Yung’s Dream Cats Dance Group. Snacks, drinks, fried rice, egg rolls, spring rolls, and dumplings from Asian Food Markets of Piscataway and Noodle Gourmet were enjoyed by all. 

The Chinese New Year program at the New Brunswick Free Public Library was sponsored by the Confucius Institute of Rutgers University for the 7th year.
