NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Consider it a consolation prize for your time spent shoveling.
City officials have opened four New Brunswick parking garages to residents without cost until 8 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 10. The order applies to the Morris Street, Plum Street, New Street and Wellness Plaza decks, according to the city.
“We give residents a place to safely park their cars, and it helps with plowing,” city spokesperson Jennifer Bradshaw said.
Those who choose to park in the decks must show proof of residency, according to the city.
The measure went into effect at 6 p.m. last night, in the run-up to what forecasters expect to be a powerful snowstorm.
The outlook also caused City Hall to open late and New Brunswick Public Schools and Rutgers University to cancel classes today.
Snow began falling during the early morning hours. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the area through this evening.
For more information on parking, residents should call the New Brunswick Parking Authority at 732-667-8100.
