NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The state Department of Education has released assessment scores for every school across the state, including New Brunswick.

This is the second year in a row the state has scored schools on a scale of 0-100. The goal is to give parents details and a snapshot of each school in the district.

Among the factors considered in reaching the scores are graduation rates, chronic absenteeism, standardized test scores and preparation of students for college.

For example, New Brunswick High School has a four-year graduation rate of 73.4 percent, below the state average of 90.8

State officials say much of the information for the reports comes from data submitted by each school district.

This scoring system has been criticized as being oversimplified. The rating system was created in accordance with the federal regulations in the Every Student Succeeds Act or ESSA. The system also consider English proficiency and math proficiency

The scores are part of the state’s School Performance Reports for the 2017-18 school year. “The School Performance Reports are a tool designed to inform and empower entire communities,” said Education Commissioner Lamont O. Repollet. “Not only can they be utilized by parents, educators and the general public, but school leaders can use the reports to help identify areas in which they can better meet the needs of students.”

You can review the full report and get more in-depth information on schools at the NJ School Performance Report website.
