NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A trip to New Brunswick can sometimes be frustrating.
The city, home to county government, two hospitals, three theaters and numerous dining and drinking establishments, can be a parking nightmare. Motorists slowly maneuvering their vehicles around the city streets or parking garages in search of that elusive space is a common sight.
To ease the trip, the city is partnering with a private company to allow drivers to reserve a space in a parking deck using an their mobile device.
New Brunswick entered an agreement with ParkMobile to provide access to 700 spaces in the seven parking decks in the downtown.
“We want to make the visit to New Brunswick to be more comfortable,” said Mitch Karon, executive director of the city parking authority. “On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights there is a very large demand for parking. We want to remove that angst of having to find a parking space."
Under the program, drivers can use their mobile devices to book parking by downloading the app for Apple and Android devices, or they can reserve parking on ParkMobile.io.
To start the program, the city has set aside 100 spaces in each of its parking garage for reservation, and drivers can get a space in the Church Street Deck, Gateway Deck, Morris Street Deck, New Street Deck, Paterson Deck, Plum Street Deck and the Wellness Deck.
ParkMobile has been working with the city since 2013, providing a service to let motorists pay for on-street parking through their mobile devices.
This new app will expand ParkMoble’s work in New Brunswick.
“Within minutes, users can book reservation parking on the app to guarantee a parking spot while out for dinner, a show or a meeting,” said ParkMobile CEO Jon Ziglar.
ParkMobile currently provides parking reservation services in Hoboken, Ocean City, Fairlawn, Montclair, Trenton, West New York, Lambertville, Englewood, among other municipalities.
The company serves 350 cities across the country, including New York City, Washington D.C. and Chicago.
