NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A woman woke up today and found a man in her off-campus bedroom, prompting city cops to launch an investigation.
The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. May 3 in a house on Stone Street, between Sicard Street and College Avenue, according to press releases from the New Brunswick and Rutgers University police department.
The woman is affiliated with Rutgers, police said. That means she may be a student, faculty member or staffer. But the neighborhood is heavily populated by college students.
When the occupant confronted the “suspicious male,” he left through a rear door, according to police.
Cops said the suspect is an African-American man who is roughly 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. He wore a dark zip-up hoodie and black pants and had “short braids in his hair,” according to police.
People with information on the suspect should call Det. Drew Weiss at 732-745-5217.
When not at home or asleep, residents should lock windows and doors, police said.
“As the weather gets warmer, open windows and doors are an easy target for burglars and trespassers,” New Brunswick police said.
