NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - City high school students preparing for the big prom are being offered free dresses that will be given away this Thursday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
The dresses will be available starting at 5 p.m., city officials announced today.
All interested students are advised to RSVP ahead of time by calling (908) 420-8603.
This is the first year the hospital has given away prom dresses, the result of a generous donation.
"They (the dresses) were donated anonymously," said hospital spokesman Peter Haigney. "They brought them to us," he said.
The hospital is using the donation in combination with and educational program. Along with a dress, each student will also get information about teen dating violence and ways in which to maintain healthy relationships.
The dresses will be given away at the hospital’s 8 East Tower location. The entrance to the building is on Little Albany Street.
City officials said the dresses are being offered as part of the hospital’s Community Health Promotion Program. It is urged to arrive on time to get the perfect dress.
