NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - For thousands of New Brunswick students, Monday was the first day back to school for in-person instruction since the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic more than a year ago.

Students in the district's K-5 and K-8 schools Monday returned for a hybrid model - a mix of in-person and remote instruction.

The district is taking health precautions in response to the lingering pandemic, such as requiring face masks, instituting social distancing and installing plastic shields around desks.

The photos are a glimpse inside the first day back to in-person instruction in about 13 months.
