HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - The word of the day was "charity" for Hillsborough 3rd-graders who received free dictionaries from members of the Rotary Club of Hillsborough.
The club began its distribution Thursday and will continue on Friday, during which a total of 750 dictionaries will be handed out to all six schools. This tradition by the Rotary Club began almost 20 years ago.
The children at the Triangle School on Thursday were asked to find the definition of words like "charity" and "volunteer" to help them understand Rotary's mission, which is "Service Above Self."
The dictionary give-away is one of many community events and charitable contributions organized by the Rotary Club of Hillsborough, best known for the annual Rotary Fair held each August. All monies raised at the fair, and other events sponsored by the Rotary, are re-invested in the community with gifts to charities, non-profits, schools, student projects, youth organizations and families in need.
