NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A gas leak on Livingston Avenue by the Roosevelt Elementary School forced the school to be evacuated, officials confirmed.
A crew from PSEG hit a gas main on Walton Street and Livingston Avenue at around 9 a.m. October 5, while working on gas line upgrades, said New Brunswick Deputy Fire Chief Tom Lopardo.
Gas odors started drifting into the school, prompting an evacuation. Students were relocated to the Lord Stirling School several blocks over, before being allowed back to class in less than an hour.
No injuries were reported and parents were notified via Nixle, said Peter Mangarella, director of security at the Roosevelt school.
