NEW BRUNSWICK  - The city council meeting was canceled for Wednesday night because of the storm, and has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 27.

This is second time this month  that a city had to reschedule a council meeting because of the snowy weather. A meeting was canceled March 7 and rescheduled for March 13. Because of that change, the city had to re-advertise several bond ordinances to and re-schedule public hearings for those ordinances.

The public hearings were supposed to be held Wednesday night, March 21.

Meanwhile, school officials announced the public schools will be closed on Thursday, March 22,

City police on Wednesday announced that a Code Blue was in effect because of the snow.

The Henry Guest House, located at 58 Livingston Avenue, next to the New Brunswick Free Public Library, will be open overnight as a warming center between the hours of 7 p.m. tonight and 7 a.m. Thursday.

However, space is limited. The door of the building will be closed at 9 p.m. Tuesday night, or it it reaches capacity before then.

A Code Blue, police said, goes into effect when temperatures dip below 20 degrees or there is an accumulation of at least six inches of snow on the ground. Warming centers are opened to provide a warm and dry place for residents without adequate shelter.
