BRIDGEWATER, NJ -- Rutgers University's head men's basketball coach is going out to the ballgame.

Steve Pikiell plans to attend the Somerset Patriots' annual Rutgers Night at TD Bank Ballpark this Saturday, Aug. 26, for the team’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Bridgeport Bluefish, according to the organization.

Rutgers Night takes place each year at the ballpark, celebrating the university and pumping up fans for the upcoming football and basketball seasons, according to the Patriots.

Pikiell was named the 2016 America East Conference Coach of the Year. He led Stony Brook to six postseason appearances over seven years, according to a news release.

More recently, in March 2016, he became the 19th head coach of Rutgers' men’s basketball team, according to the release. He boasts 25 years of coaching experience.

Pikiell was a two-time team captain at point guard under Naismith Hall of Fame Head Coach Jim Calhoun in Connecticut.

The Scarlet Knight mascot, Rutgers cheerleaders, dance team members and other "special guests" will also head to the ballpark that night, according to the Patriots.

Fans should wear red to the game, according to the release.
